Cuando Francois, un periodista, recorre una gran tienda por un artículo, es elegido por el hijo del dueño del periódico, Rambal-Cochet, como su nuevo juguete. Al necesitar dinero y no querer renunciar a su trabajo, Francois acepta esta ridícula tarea. Poco a poco se hace amigo del niño mimado, lo induce a jugar a hacer un periódico, desvelando públicamente el estilo de vida tiránico del padre. El poderoso clímax emocional que experimentamos con el niño asombra a ambos hombres.
